Following graduation in Industrial Management from Tech, Beebe received on the job training in finance with Trust Company of Georgia. Convinced he would not be a “classic” banker, he was attracted to Atlanta’s “glamorous” growth business – real estate development.
Cousins Properties provided an entry point and 7 years of diverse experience in product types, debt structure and restructuring. The experience also ingrained the dual tenants of development that apply today – it is a highly cyclical and capital intensive business. This recognition led to Beebe establishing a subsidiary of Mobil Corp. in Atlanta to develop large scale communities. Mobil provided the financial muscle and planning discipline to take advantage of market and credit swings.
The Mobil experience kindled a global awareness and interest and 7 years later, he became President of Wilma Southeast, Inc. – a subsidiary of a Dutch owned development and investment company. Wilma provided a wide range of geographic, product, and investment source experience. Of particular interest was a series of multimodal (air, sea, rail, and road) related projects – many developed with global partners.
In the mid 90s, Beebe left the development business and moved into real estate services with CB Richard Ellis. His two principal responsibilities involved being Executive Managing Director for the Eastern Region of the US and finally as Chief Learning Officer. During his time with CB, the company grew from $300 million in revenues to over $3 billion – by far the largest player in the real estate services business. In his 14 years with CBRE, he participated in numerous acquisitions as well as a MBO and subsequent IPO.
Beebe retired from CBRE in 2007 to pursue his interest in executive coaching for high performance real estate teams in various parts of the world.
His extracurricular activities have included Leadership Atlanta program and trustee, International Business Fellows program and President, Urban Land Institute – Council Chairman and International Committee, Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, Director of the Enterprise Bank, and various other Board assignments.
He and his wife Anne, an Agnes Scott College graduate, live in Atlanta where they are actively engaged with 4 young grandchildren.
