| | | Beril Toktay is the Nancy J. and Lawrence P. Huang Associate Professor of Operations Management with specialization in Supply Chain Management. Her research focuses on two topics within this area. The first is the management of closed-loop supply chains, which are supply chains in which value is recovered from used products via recycling, remanufacturing or repair operations. The second is the management of information and risk in supply chains, which focuses on forecasting, forecast collaboration, and integrated operational and financial risk management in supply chains. She was formerly Associate Professor of Operations Management at INSEAD.
Professor Toktay is the Coordinator of the Georgia Tech Focused Research Program on Closed-Loop Production Systems, an interdisciplinary group of faculty from Engineering and Public Policy who are interested in sustainable manufacturing. She and Mark Ferguson, Associate Professor of Operations Management, won two $300,000 National Science Foundation grants for their research program in sustainable supply chains. The two professors also won the Wickham Skinner Award for best unpublished paper at the 2005 Production and Operations Management Meeting for "The Effect of Competition on Recovery Strategies." Professor Toktay's research has received other distinctions such as first prize in the 2006 Wickham Skinner competition, finalist in the EURO 2003 paper competition and first prize in the 1999 MSOM student paper competition.
Her research articles have appeared in refereed journals such as Management Science, M&SOM, Operations Research, and Production and Operations Management. Professor Toktay is Associate Editor for Operations Research, M&SOM and Naval Research Logistics, and serves on the Editorial Board of Production and Operations Management.
Professor Toktay has taught Supply Chain Management courses at the PhD, MBA, and Executive Education levels, as well as Operations Management and Operations Research courses at the PhD level. She has developed cases and pedagogical material for MBA and Executive Education audiences. Most recently, she introduced an MBA course on Business and the Environment.
