Faculty Wing to be Dedicated in Honor of Professor Adler October 29 spacer

Phil Adler, professor emeritus of strategic management

Important update as of October 26: The time of the dedication has been changed to 1:30 PM.

The College of Management will dedicate a wing in honor of Phil Adler, a professor emeritus of strategic management revered by many of his past students, at 1:30 PM Saturday, October 29 in the Management building's LeCraw Auditorium.

Alumni donors surpassed their $750,000 goal by $200,000 to have the fourth-floor north wing of the Management building at 800 West Peachtree Street named the "Donna L. and Dr. Phillip Adler Jr. Faculty Excellence Wing."

The space is home to faculty offices, which is only appropriate, says Mack Reese, IM 1983 and MSM 1985, who led the fundraising effort. "(Adler's) teaching ability and interest in and compassion for students are something that all Georgia Tech professors should aspire to," explains Reese, partner with Gateway Development Services. "He's always been available for me after I graduated, and he continues to be to this day."

Known for his incredible memory, Adler has been able to maintain long-term relationships with many of the students he taught during his nearly 40-year career at the College of Management. Though he retired in 2000, he continues serve as a much-valued mentor to many of these alumni.

Other alumni instrumental in the fundraising initiative included Owen Herrin, IM 1970; Calvin Johnson, MGT SCI 1973; Jack Markwalter, IM 1981; Mike McCarthy, IM 1968; Toney Means, IM 1983; Joe Montgomery, IM 1983; Bob Prather, IM 1967 and MSM 1970; John Rhodes, IM 1984; George Riles, IM 1970; and Jerry Warshaw, IM 1967. They helped inspire about 45 Georgia Tech alumni to contribute.
