The DiagNano student team recently won a challenge round at the Rice University Business Plan Competition for its plan to market nanotechnology-based products for in-vitro cancer diagnostics.

"This is an impressive achievement, especially considering that DiagNano was one of only 36 teams chosen to compete at Rice out of 234 internationally who applied," says College of Management Dean Steve Salbu.

Teams vied there for a total of $600,000 in prizes and in-kind services.

Part of the Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER®) program, the interdisciplinary DiagNano team includes MBA student Kristina Crockett, biomedical engineering PhD student Brad Kairdolf, Emory law students Richard Gaddis, M. Eric Galvez, and Laura Huffman, and Emory JD Jarrett Silver. They also won third-place in the 2008 Georgia Tech Business Plan Competition.

TI:GER®, a collaboration between Georgia Tech and Emory Law School, is nationally recognized for its success at developing the next generation of entrepreneurs. Housed in Georgia Tech College of Management, TI:GER® is the first program of its kind to bring together PhD, MBA, and law students in the classroom and research lab to advance early-stage research into real business opportunities.
