Evening MBA student Diana Orrego-Moore well understands the importance of a strong professional network. That’s a big part of what attracted her to Georgia Tech College of Management.

“My peers in the program are impressive, and the College also boasts many distinguished alumni who’ve reached high levels within their organizations,” says Orrego-Moore, who started the Evening MBA program in fall 2007 and previously earned an MS in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech in 1999.

She’s playing a key role in building even stronger connections as founder of the Georgia Tech Hispanic Alumni Network, created in 2001 for Latino graduates of all of the Institute’s degree programs. She also recently concluded her term as vice president of membership for the Atlanta chapter of the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, during which time she helped triple the size of the group’s rolls.

Career Growth

A native of Colombia whose husband, Jonathan Moore, holds a Georgia Tech MBA, Orrego-Moore recognized that she needed to earn her own MBA in order to grow her career at The Home Depot. “At Georgia Tech, I am gaining the experience I need to help me move forward,” she says.

Orrego-Moore, who joined The Home Depot as an engineer in 2004, recently began transitioning from managing the creation of the company’s regional distribution centers around the country to dealing with supplier negotiations as a supply chain manager.

“Several of my classes have helped prepare me for this new role, which involves a much bigger perspective,” says Orrego-Moore, who plans to continue evolving her career within the areas of supply chain and operations management.

Ambitious Goals

“My goal is to get a promotion to senior manager after graduation, then attain a director position within five years,” she says. “I want to be a leader in the industry.”

Orrego-Moore appreciates that The Home Depot has been very supportive of her MBA education, providing a partial tuition reimbursement and being flexible about her travel schedule.

Georgia Tech’s Evening MBA program is flexible by nature. Classes are offered Monday through Thursday evenings. Most students take two courses each semester, completing the program in approximately three years.

“So far, my experience in the program has been extremely positive,” Orrego-Moore says. “I have learned a great deal from the excellent professors and from my peers, who bring a wide variety of professional backgrounds to the classroom.”
