Published on:06-05-2009

The high-tech firm AccelerEyes,,, which evolved in Georgia Tech’s TI:GER® program, won the 2009 Business Launch Competition of the Georgia Research Alliance and Technology Association of Georgia (a $100,000 cash prize with additional business services worth $200,000).

AccelerEyes’ founders participated in the Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER) program, a collaboration between Georgia Tech and Emory Law School that is nationally recognized for its success at developing the next generation of entrepreneurs.

The company’s patented software called Jacket, which hit the market in 2008, makes supercomputing possible on a PC by enabling the popular MATLAB programming language to easily utilize the great power of the graphics processing unit, which has much more muscle than a computer’s central processing unit. The software is designed for engineers, scientists, financial analysts, and other professionals requiring extreme computational power.

AccelerEyes’ team includes John Melonakos, who earned his PhD in electrical and computer engineering (ECE) at Georgia Tech in 2008; current ECE doctoral students James Malcolm and Tauseef ur Rehman; and computer science PhD student Gallagher Pryor. They also won Georgia Tech’s 2008 Business Plan Competition.

Housed in Georgia Tech College of Management, TI:GER is the only program of its kind to bring together PhD, MBA, and law students in the classroom and research lab to learn about the challenges of commercializing innovative technologies.
