How are applications to the MBA Program evaluated?

What is the admission profile on the recent class enrolled and student profile for the entire MBA Program?

Do I have to have work experience in order to be accepted in the program?

I don’t have any undergraduate courses in business/management. Will that affect my chances of admission? Will I be at a disadvantage in my MBA classes if I haven’t taken any business courses previously?

My undergraduate degree is in business administration, so I have taken all the core courses already. Do I have to take them again or is there a way to waive them since I have already taken them?

Are there any prerequisites to the MBA Program?

How are applications to the MBA Program evaluated?
Applications to the MBA Program are evaluated on a rolling basis. Considered in the admission decision are undergraduate (and graduate, if applicable) academic performance, GMAT scores, TOEFL scores for international applicants, work experience, essays, interviews, letters of recommendation, and other documentation supporting the application. Applications are reviewed individually and are also compared to the students currently enrolled in the program and to the current group of applicants.

The admissions committee is really making two decisions.  The first concerns potential for academic success in the MBA program.  In this phase of the process past academic work, GMAT scores, and TOEFL scores (if applicable) are considered.  In the second phase of the decision process the committee is looking for indicators for leadership potential, contributions to the MBA program, both inside and outside the classroom, and career fit.

Do I have to have work experience in order to be accepted in the program?
While we do not require work experience we strongly recommend at least one to two years of professional work experience. The average student enrolled in our program has approximately four years of work experience. Of those students, most have completed some type of co-op or internship where they gained valuable experience. In addition to the strong contributions they make to the classroom, we believe that students who have professional work experience find the MBA more enriching professionally and personally. If you do not have professional work experience, you should discuss the contributions you believe you can make to the program in your application essays based on internship experiences or leadership activities in your undergraduate program.

I don’t have any undergraduate courses in business/management. Will that affect my chances of admission? Will I be at a disadvantage in my MBA classes if I haven’t taken any business courses previously?
About seventy percent of our MBA students hold non-business undergraduate degrees. The admissions committee strives to admit students from a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds. While the MBA core courses move at a fast pace, they do not assume previous business course work.

My undergraduate degree is in business administration, so I have taken all the core courses already. Do I have to take them again or is there a way to waive them since I have already taken them?
The criteria to waive core courses are established every summer for the incoming class. Some courses cannot be waived at all, while others can be waived based on undergraduate coursework. However, if you waive a course you must replace the hours with an elective, so waiving courses does not shorten the length of your program.

Keep in mind that while you may have completed business/management courses at the undergraduate level, the graduate versions of those courses are much more rigorous and application based. Emphasis is placed on classroom discussion, group projects, and case analysis.

Are there any prerequisites to the MBA Program?
The only prerequisite to the MBA Program is calculus with a grade of "C" or better. While a calculus is not required for us to review your application, it must be completed prior to beginning the MBA program in the fall.
